ቡና
ቡና, spelled buna in english, means coffee in the Ethiopian language Amharic. It is also the name of the stool I designed for my furniture making workshop. The stool represent my take on designing and crafting a stool used in the historic Ethiopian coffee making ceremony.
Overview
In Fall 2019, I took a furniture making studio, and as a final project students were tasked with creating a small piece of wooden furniture.
I decided to create an Ethiopian coffee making stool, but rather than keep its classical design I looked to add design features that paid homage to its purpose - coffee making — and furthermore the historical area where coffee originated in Ethiopia.
