Combating Flooding in Boston Harbor

Climate Ready Boston

Overview

For my year-long senior capstone project (2021-2022), my group and I explored the environmental, engineering, and economic viability of flood gates for Boston Harbor as a preventative measure against climate change and rising sea levels. The project involved ecological safety studies, cost-benefit analysis, and geotechnical and structural analyses. I led the bathymetric studies of the harbor and the structural analysis effort by finding an optimal design for the barriers. Followed by conducting structural research on them and estimating a cost.
